Gazprom continued negotiations on gas prices with the delegation of Ukraine

Wednesday, 21 April 2010 11:34
The Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, the Minister of Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Boiko and the chairman of "Naftogaz Ukraine" Eugene Bakulin at a meeting in Moscow on Monday continued their discussion of issues related to the price parameters of the contract of sale of Russian natural gas, according to a press release of the Russian gas holding.

"The meeting further considered the parties' cooperation in the framework of long-term contracts for gas supply and transit. In particular, they discussed the issues related to the price parameters of the contract of sale of Russian gas," - the press office of "Gazprom" reported.

In the end of the previous week, Russian and Ukrainian side carried out negotiations on contracts for the supply of Russian gas and its transit through the territory of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in early April asked the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov with the leaders of TAC to prepare the proposals to Russia regarding the price of gas for the country.

Kiev in the first quarter of 2010 paid for Russian gas the price of 305 dollars per thousand cubic meters, from the second quarter the price should rise to 320-330 dollars. Ukraine considers the price unjust and offers Russia to reconsider it.

Ukrainian government said that Ukraine requested a discount of $ 4 billion a year on gas.

At the same time Azarov explained that since the prices can be revised only with the second quarter, Russian side may be short of $ 3 billion for gas supplies in 2010.

According to him, to compensate these losses, Russia will be offered other lucrative projects.

The level of gas prices, proposed by Ukrainian side was not officially announced, but Russian media referring to sources had the information that the price was 260 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

As a possible reciprocal concessions of Ukraine, the transit of Russian gas to Europe, the creation of gas transportation consortium, Gazprom renting of the underground gas storage facilities were named.

"Gazprom" and National Joint Stock Company "Naftogaz Ukraine", on January 19, 2009 signed two contracts: sales for the period from 2009 to 2019 years, on the vollume and terms of gas transit through Ukraine for 2009-2019 years.

As the press service of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy reported last Thursday, "Naftogaz Ukraine" and "Gazprom" agreed to increase the purchases of gas to Ukraine for this year from 33,7 to 36,5 billion cubic meters.

As noted, in turn, Gazprom, thus taking into account the actual volume of deliveries in the first quarter, from April to December 2010 the contract volume of purchases of gas of "Naftogaz Ukraine" will be increased to 30 billion cubic meters.
