The interchange at the intersection of Capital Highway and Science Highway, may be build by Euro-2012. But it is of little help to the residents of Korchevatoe.
Today this intersection is the place with heavy traffic jams in Kiev.
At one level, the prospect of Science abuts the highway, in addition the crossing with the main line, where the trains in the direction of Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk run, is located here.
Long queues of cars gather both near the traffic lights and in front of a barrier that blocks the movement almost every 10 minutes, passing trains and trains. "Gazeta po-Kievsky" managed to find out about options for future interchanges.
The main plus of the project is the transformation of prospectus of Science into full-scale 6-lane highway over the railroad tracks instead of the current narrow ,winding descent.
The flow of cars from here freely gets to the Capital road in the direction of Obukhov and the Beltway. And for traveling towards the center of Kiev the turn is provided.
Among the disadvantages there is the inconvenience for ten thousands of people living in the block Korchevatoe: instead of through passage you will have to "whirl" in the interchange.
This casts doubt on long-standing project of extension of trolleybus route number 1 to Korchevatoe and further development of the residential community. However, the design is still ongoing.
"This is just one of the options - said Eugene Lemonov, the chairman, CEO, the project developer of CJSC Kievsoyuzdorproekt. - There is a project on the overpass of the Metropolitan highway, but then the railroad must also be reconstructed. Another way is a three-level interchange with exits to all sides - but it is twice as expensive. Which option to choose depends on funding."
The interchange was supposed to appear in Soviet times - the inhabitants of the area were even relocated, where construction was planned. Before the crisis, it was planned to be opened in 2010.
"The challenge is: if you start, then in spring - in order to finish it by Euro 2012, because it is one of the entrances to the city", - said Eugene Lemonov. |
