Christmas tree was lit up in the center of Kiev

Wednesday, 23 December 2009 10:18

In the four years term of presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, according to statistics, the number of children who today are educated in family-type children's homes has increased 20 times. In general, the adoptive parents took responsibility for 15 thousands of young Ukrainians.

- On this festive day, I wish that St. Nicholas would pass neither single Ukrainian family, nor a single Ukrainian child - said the president. - And let the warm light of Christmas candles will warm every Ukrainian family!

The President concluded his speech, and the masters of ceremonies announced the traditional collection of books for students of boarding schools, taking place during the charity Children's Book Fair. Viktor Yushchenko, meanwhile took his place in the hall to see the charity concert "Svyatomu Mykolayu pisnyu zaspivayu (sing a song to St.Nicholas)". On the stage there were talented children, folk ensembles and groups. With traditional Christmas story was made by the children's folklore ensemble "Daybozhe" and gifted children-musicians gladden audience with variations of classical works.

Along with a celebratory concert on Saturday the action "St. Nicholas travels across Ukraine" began -  in the east and west of the country, children receive presents from Nicholas, who visited orphanages and hospitals.

The same day Christmas tree was lit up in the center of Kiev in Ukraine. A lot of people gathered on the main square of the country: in spite of bad weather, all the approaches to the green 35-meter beauty were occupied by the audience wishing to participate in the celebration. There was also the Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky, and the president, who came to Maidan specially to congratulate Ukrainians on the feast of St. Nicholas.

- I am sure that this Holy One will come to your families and besprinkle us all with big generous gifts - Viktor Yushchenko began his greeting. - I wish us all prosperity and success! I would like to wish that these lights, which we now see, will reach every Ukrainian home. The light of Christmas candles, which we will soon light, would warm each of us, every Ukrainian, all of Ukraine. So that we would be strong in faith and live happily, richly in our strong Ukraine. After all, we, Ukrainians, are worth of that!

The Head of State was literally drowned by applause - Maidan asked to begin the celebration. Viktor Yushchenko bowed slightly his head: the will of the people - is the law. And suddenly Christmas tree glistened with bright lights, flashing, radiating warmth and joy. The lights change color from blue to green to violet, winking, shading a huge Christmas star, located at the top of the tree. A few seconds later a celebratory fireworks thundered, completing the celebration.
