"The current President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko having concluded his rule, has all chances to stay in politics. He has enough electoral resource, consisting of supporters of right-and right-centrist ideologies.
Therefore, haveing created a block named after him, he is quite able to get into the parliament during the early parliamentary elections, which, obviously, will be held soon after the presidential race." Such an opinion was expressed by political analyst, the Director of the Ukrainian Center for Civil Society Studies (CCSS) Vitaly Kulik in his comments to REGNUM News in Kiev.
Describing the five-year period of stay of Yushchenko as the president, the expert found a lot of both positive and negative points.
According to the political analyst, during the five-year period of presidency of Viktor Yushchenko Ukraine has got actual Freedom of Speech. "It is now difficult to talk about any censorship or pressure on journalists by the authorities.
And our country is the leader in terms of freedom of speech in post-Soviet space. But we also have freedom from liability in the media, which is the reverse side of the coin, "- said Kulik.
Also, in his opinion, for the latest five years the Ukrainians managed to take the path of building civil society. As it was noted by Kulik, the active development of various forms of civil initiative, whose work often is a fairly weighty factor in effect on the Ukrainian authorities, proves this fact.
"We also received an impulse for national revival, thanks to the development and modernization of the local culture. However, there were negative cases in the form of excesses in the direction of Ukrainization in culture and language area, instead of pursuing the policy of tolerance and intercultural and inter-ethnic compromises" - complained the analyst.
Describing the state of the Ukrainian economy, he opined that Ukraine wa able to survive the crisis, albeit with heavier losses, than the neighboring countries.
"On the other hand, we faced with the problem of active de-industrialization of the country. In addition, the Ukrainian economy is increasingly becoming dependent on external financial structures.
The penetration of both the western and Russian capital is threatening for the national economy. There is a displacement of domestic products by foreign corporations.
We lose our place in the international division of labor and capital ", - said the expert. He drew attention to the sharp drop of investment in high-tech industry.
"Virtually there were no major projects in the so-called "smart economy", not to mention the fact that the country has actually stopped engineering. It primarily concerns agriculture, aviation and space industries," - said Kulik.
According to his estimation, the situation is not either better with the defence in Ukraine, "because the army was almost entirely destroyed for five years in the country."
"We could not go to a professional army. It's not only because of the crisis, because of which had it became necessary to cut down expences, but also the inability of the President and the Prime Minister to establish a constructive dialogue on the reform of the sector", - noted political scientist.
Failed, according to the head of , combat corruption. "We were not able to change the trend of matching businesses with the power and the party finally turned to the add-on business groups.
According to the head TSIPGO, they did not succeed in overcoming of the corruption. "We were not able to change the trend of binding businesses with the power and the party finally turned to the add-on business groups.
The political forces saw their main goal in service of their donors, rather than production of new ideas for development of the country", - said the expert.
At the same time due to constant re-election, the authority has ceased to think in strategic categories, and calculate their activities for 10-15 years ahead.
"At the forefront there are tactical schemes, worked out for the next election campaign. The commanding and the opposition political forces are sujected to that" - summarized Vitaly Kulik. |
