Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill blessed the elected President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich on the day of his inauguration to the service of the Ukrainian people, stressing that the meaning of true power lies precisely in sacrificial service to the people.
Power as a feat
"Religious understanding of power is associated with the service.
Human power has no meaning to God, there is only one meaning - is a ministry", - said the primate, referring to Yanukovych with welcome speech after the prayer for the people of Ukraine and the new head of state in Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on Thursday.
The text of the message was published on the official website of Russian Orthodox Church.
The real power, the patriarch Cyril said, is always connected with responsibility and achievement, including the spiritual.
"Because to serve your neighbours, to serve the people - is always to give yourself, and in some cases - to crucify yourself for the sake of those you are intended to serve", - explained the Primate.
According to him, "the service, being in power" requires great spiritual and physical strength, wisdom, patience, strength and humility. And for all this man needs the help of God.
"That is why religious people, ascending to power, always start this good deed with a prayer.
And today we have prayed to the Lord and the Savior, and His Blessed Mother, Saint Blessed Apostolic Grand Duke Vladimir, the protector your holy martyr Victor, holy Reverends of Kievo-Pechersk Lavra so that they were together with you in the discharge of your responsible service to Ukraine", - said the patriarch to Yanukovych. |
