KIEV, February 25. Ukraine will continue the integration process with Europe and former Soviet countries as a non-bloc state, said in his inaugural speech, President Viktor Yanukovych.
"As a bridge between East and West, an integral part of Europe and the former Soviet Union at the same time, Ukraine will choose a foreign policy that will allow our state to get the maximum result from the development of equitable and mutually beneficial relations with Russia, European Union, the United States and other countries that affect developments in the world ", - Yanukovych said.
"The challenges facing the international community, dictate the need to unite in the widest possible format. I mean the one world as a force capable of guaranteeing the world a peaceful coexistence of different civilizations, energy, environmental, food safety. We are ready to participate in such processes as European non-bloc state ", - said the president of Ukraine.
According to him, he will propose this concept to the Parliament to formulate the foreign policy of Ukraine.
Predecessor of Yanukovich as president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko has advocated NATO membership. Kiev has not received the right to participate in the Action Plan for NATO membership at the alliance's Bucharest summit in April 2008. However, less than NATO leaders declared that there is in principle the possibility of Ukraine to join NATO. |
