Novohrad-Volynskyi (historical spellings: Возвягель, Звяголь, Звягель, Звягаль; modern: Ukrainian: Новоград-Волинський, transliteration, Novohrad-Volyns’kyi, Russian: Новоград-Волынский, transliteration, Novograd-Volynsky, Yiddish: זוויל transliteration Zvil, Polish: Zwiahel) is a city in the Zhytomyr Oblast (province) of northern Ukraine. Serving as the administrative center of the Novohrad-Volynskyi Raion (district), the city itself is also designated as a separate raion within the oblast.
The town is best known as the birth place of Lesya Ukrainka, famous Ukrainian poet.
The current estimated population is around 56,000 (as of 2001).
