An activist of Ukrainian movement FEMEN, known for its scandalous actions, tried to break through to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill at Kiev airport.
A half-naked girl rushed to the representative of ROC with the cry: "Go away", but she was quickly taken away by securities.
"It is regrettable that the visit of Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine is overshadowed by such antics" - said the head of the Patriarchal press service, the deacon, Alexander Volkov, commenting on the incident, reports RIA "Novosti".
He noted that the church often faced with attacks and anger.
"This shows that too many people understand that the visit of Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine is an event of great magnitude and of significant importance. At the same time, this kind of incident does not impose a shadow over his visit, it just shows profound spiritual crisis in certain sectors of society", - said Volkov.
Meanwhile, dozens of activists of the nationalist party "Freedom" began to rally in front of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on Thursday morning, protesting against the visit of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
The participants were standing with the yellow-blue national flags and the flags of the party "Freedom".
On Thursday, Patriarch Kirill arrives in Kiev on a three-day primatial visit to mark the Day of the Baptism of Rus. The Patriarch will head the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, which will be held in Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
The activists of "Freedom" intended to hold a protest at the entrance of Lavra before, but the holding of protests there was banned by the court. Therefore, party leaders urged their supporters to protest at the administration of President of Ukraine.
The entrance to the building of the administration was closed by the police, so the rally was held at some distance from it.
The protesters reminded that they protested every time the Patriarch came to Ukraine.
"Now he comes here as for a job, and there is no special excitement about his arrival. This is also our contribution", - said the head of the Kyiv city organization of the party "Svoboda" Andrey Ilyenko.
He explained that his political force was protesting against the arrival of Kirill as such visits "create a rift in Ukraine".
Ilyenko also said that the party "Freedom" wanted to appeal to the presidential administration, against the visit of the head of the ROC.
Meanwhile, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is preparing to receive guests. Traffic policemen are standing along the street leading to Lavra, it is clear that there are much more representatives of the police here than usually. Along the Lavra Lane, there are a few buses with employees of police departments. But the situation is calm around Lavra, there are no signs of protesters. |
