Khmelnik - is one of the oldest cities of Ukraine. The first written mention of it is dated from 1362. In 1448, the city received Magdeburg Law.
Khmelnik - is a city of regional subordination, balneological resort of national importance, the administrative center of the district. It is located on the north-west of Vinnitsa region, 67 km from Vinnitsa, connected with Kiev, Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa, Berdichev, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Ternopil, Lviv by bus lines. There is a railway communication with Kyiv, Khmelnitsky, Moscow.
The climate is moderately warm, soft, without sharp fluctuations of temperatures, favorable for the human body, which according to the hygienic standards meets the so-called "comfort zone". Since 1797, Khmilnik has got its own emblem, which, in 1997 (after 200 years) was approved by the city council, as a symbol of self-government and an attribute of government.
Modern Khmelnik - is a real jewel of Podolia, the resort is famous far beyond Ukraine. The pride of the city is its architectural and historical monuments of the past: the church, built in honor of the Holy Trinity in 1603 and renovated in 1729, 4 Orthodox churches were built in the period 1801-1910, Turkish mosque, a castle of Count Ksido - aide of General Stessel, known as a person who handed over the Port Arthur during the Russian-Japanese War, 1904-1905.
In memory of the liberation War of Ukrainian people against the oppression of Poland in 1648-1654, headed by B. Khmelnitsky, the city raised a monument to him. A memorial to soldiers was built - to the citizens of Hmelnitskiy who died during the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945, as well as Obelisk to the soldiers of 18 Army, 71 and 276 infantry divisions of the 1-st Ukrainian Front, who liberated the city in March 1944. In 1991 a monument to Taras Shevchenko was built.
