KIEV, July 22. The death of a famous Soviet and Ukrainian actor Bohdan Stupka marked the end of the era in the modern history of Ukrainian theater and cinema.
"His genius brought the modern Ukrainian theater to the world level, his superior performances give immense energy to Ukrainian cinema" - said in today's statement of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
The department noted that the actors of this level are born once a century, and after they pass "a void that can never be filled remains".
"From now, the modern history of our theater and cinema will be divided into two eras - the era of Stupka and the one post it. Bow to the talent of the man who has left this world", - said in the statement.
71-year-old Bohdan Stupka died this morning after a long illness in the Kiev clinic "Feofania".
According to his son, Ostap Stupka, the cause of his father's death was a congestive heart failure. "He did not like to complain therefore almost noone knew about that. For these months the disease have progressed rapidly, and a few days ago he felt really bad," - said Ostap Stupka.
According to the staff of the Metropolitan Hospital "Feofania", during the night of 21/22 July, the actor suffered a heart attack, followed by coma, the doctors could do nothing.
Farewell will be held on July 24 at the National Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko, Stupka was the head of the theater until recently. The actor will be buried at Baikove cemetery in Kiev.
Stupka was a People's Artist of the USSR, USSR State Prize laureate, laureate of the Shevchenko Prize, and in 2011 he received the title of Hero of Ukraine. He starred in more than 100 feature and documentary films, was an academician of the Russian Academy of Motion Picture Arts "Nika". |
